Dixie Flix : A Mini-Bio | ||||||||||||||||||
If you don't get it, that's okay. The Flix part is as in movies, and a lot of times they make movies on people lives, like a mini-biography. Eh, I just needed something that was near Chicks, and that was my line of thinking. I'm not always on the straight and narrow.
The Dixie Chicks now consists of Natalie Maines, Emily Erwin, and Martie Seidel. With their three-part harmonies, fast playing (dobro, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo), and all variety in music, the Dixie Chicks will go a long way. But what about before Natalie?
Robin Lynn Macy, Emily Erwin, Laura Lych, and Martie Erwin (recently married, now Martie Seidel) were the original Dixie Chicks. Although the originals are widely known like the new Chicks, they did contribute greatly to the Chicks of today. The Chicks today have grasped more modern country music standards, but the original Chicks were more based toward Bluegrass and folk music. They released three independant CD's, which you can find at CDnow (as tapes, not Little Ol' Cowgirl, check link on homepage). They were called Thank Heavens For Dale Evans, Little Ol' Cowgirl, and Shouldn't A Told You That. Around the early 1990's, members were changed, the 'all-girl' band adopted some male backup players, and now all that was needed was a lead singer. In 1995 they went searching. They found Natalie Maines, and in 1997 the band's next single, I Can Love You Better, was released. After that, Wide Open Spaces and There's Your Trouble were released. They topped the charts. "I love being able to play a straight-ahead country tune and then rip into a bluegrass number, then a blues song," says Martie. "To me, that's what's fun about this group." While this page mainly focuses on the current three Chicks, I think that you can't forget the original Chicks, that paved the way for it all. For more information on the original chicks, and some pictures, go to The All-Inclusive Dixie Chicks Page. It's a great page to look at. What does the future hold for the Dixie Chicks? More member changes? Style changes? We can only wait and see. |
